Needs and challenges:
We are trying to expand the amount of land we have on campus and are currently campaigning and meeting with administration about the possibility of roof-top gardens.
Successes and achievements:
Our group has led several groups to volunteer at area sustainable farms and has helped to support a new housing opportunity on campus, the sustainability co-op. The Co-op has been able to work on the farm as well as starting a new plot of farming land right on campus. The Co-op has also started to help the Natick Community Organic Farm run their farmer's market.
Composting:
food waste from special events
Food activities:
student farm/garden, farm-to-college program, local purchasing, student organizations
Farm functions:
supplies dining hall, food consumed by volunteers, food donated for hunger relief
comments: The farm now officially sells to the dining halls and to el table, a student co-operative cafe on campus. As well as serving as an example and educational tool of sustainable agriculture.
