Successes and achievements:
Meriwether Godsey is our food provider. In 2008 Meriwether Godsey took the food service position from Sodexo. Faculty, students and staff lead the initiative to change from money centered company to an employee owned food provider which cares about the environment, its employees and its students. With this change Guilford College was taken off the Princeton Reviews "Is it food?" list.
Summer 2009- Ground was broken on the Guilford community garden. The garden consists of 20 beds that are 4'x20'. Meriwether Godsey is renting out 2 beds as are many of the faculty and staff.
Summer 2009- Food provider buys "pulper." This machine goes in the dish room. It grinds up all the food and paper waste from the cafeteria then sucks out all the water. This reduces the weight of the waste and the volume.
Fall 2009- Meriwether Godsey purchases an Earth Tub. This is a large industrial compost mechanism that the "pulp" is placed into.
